ABOUT THIS 6120
This 1960 Gretsch PX6120 Chet Atkins Hollow Body has been Sabby Mizukami's constant companion ever since they met in 2003.
Sabby got his first Gretsch in 1993, when he was 20. He bought a Gretsch 6120 Nashville on a loan. He was shocked to learn later that it was made in Japan, but it has aged nicely over the years and now serves as his sub guitar.
He met his main Gretsch 6120 in 2003, after spotting an ad online. It was placed by a well-known Gretsch specialty shop in Shibuya, Tokyo. Sabby booked a plane ticket right away, headed straight to the shop, tried the guitar and decided on the spot. It has been his partner ever since.
The guitar was made in 1960 and its serial number is 37607. As a customization, he replaced the Bigsby with a 1950s-style one (not the V-cut type), because he didn't care for the V-cut Bigsby.
He also swapped the bridge for a roller bridge. He says he prefers the roller to a bar-type bridge because the sound is tighter.
When it comes to his playing and setup, he doesn't use many effects. He uses just two: an Over Drive and an Analog Delay. Sabby says, "Honestly, I long to plug straight into the amp, like Makoto Ayukawa."
