ABOUT THIS 6120
In 2001, MATS fell in love at first sight with a brand-new black 6120 at a music shop in Ochanomizu, and for 25 years since, the two have hardly spent a moment apart.
MATS originally played a solid-body Gretsch Duo Jet as a main guitar. Inspired by Eddie Cochran and Brian Setzer, MATS decided to buy a hollow-body 6120 and headed to a music shop in Ochanomizu, Tokyo.
There, MATS spotted a black 6120 that had only just been released in 2001. Without even playing it properly, MATS decided to buy it on the spot, purely out of love at first sight. Since then, MATS has let the Duo Jet go and has played only this 6120BK for 25 years.
The pickguard and escutcheon were repainted pink, MATS's own signature color. On the front, stickers from MATS's band and solo label are applied, making it truly a guitar of MATS's own. On the back of the body, MATS has put every sticker received through years of music activities, so it is a guitar that has walked the whole journey together with its owner.
As for specs, only the rear pickup has been replaced with a TV Jones Powertron, and the tuners have been swapped for Sperzels. The wiring is hot-rod style with a high-pass (Smooth Taper) mod, and the pickups were modified so that they can be switched between single-coil and humbucker mode at any time. Modified to suit MATS's own taste, it has become the guitar it is today.
